We have really enjoyed our pit-stop at Iguazu Falls, before heading to Rio de Janiero tomorrow morning.
The flight up from Buenos Aires was very bumpy and we arrived to rain and grey skies, early afternoon. We had originally planned to visit the Argentinian side of the falls en route from the Argentinian airport to our hotel on the Brazilian side of the falls, but the forecast was so bad we thought we would just head straight to the hotel. It stopped raining around 4pm, so we set off for our first walk along the footpath which runs alongside the falls. Very large amounts of water still hurtling over the falls, albeit about half the rate it had been when much public access to the falls had to be closed around two weeks ago. We got soaked by spray, water vapour and the remains of the earlier rain dripping off the trees but it was still amazing!
Back to the hotel for drinks, cards and dinner.
More rain during the evening and overnight but the next day dawned bright and sunny. Our hotel is within the national park so hotel guests are able to access the walkways around the falls before the day-trippers have arrived and after they have left. So we set off for a walk before breakfast,
Awe-inspiring and incredible - you could watch the water for hours, but breakfast called so back to the hotel. We had planned this as an opportunity to relax and draw breath in what has been a busy schedule. The hotel is beautiful and the weather played ball with sunshine all day,
We spent most of the day reading by the pool, but set off around 4pm to cycle along tracks through the rain forest. Lots of wildlife around and about - including lizards, what we think was a pygmy brocket deer, coatis, minah birds, and toucans (though we couldn’t manage to photograph them).
A final walk along the falls before drinks and dinner at the end of a very good day.
